Best Shows On Netflix Prescribed By My Audience

Best Shows On Netflix a running post, which is updated regularly as new shows come out.

Netflix reccomendations from real people!

I spent years of my life not giving a shit about television at all.

Before kids, I didn’t even care if I owned a TV or not.

Then suddenly, your life is filled with so many responsibilities, so much noise, so much expectation, you find a deep appreciation for the time spent alone with the television.

Thank The Lawd For Netflix!

Surely Netflix is every mums escape!

Some of my favourite Netflix series have a huge following, but are still regarded as a bit trashy.

Considering I re-watch the Twilight Saga every year, I can’t really be trusted with a judgement on quality.

I ask my followers what they like, they are a cut or two above me in taste.

Enough waffling, this isn’t about me.

This is about bringing you quality Netflix shows for your Friday night in.

The Best Shows On Netflix – FRESH off the prescription paper.

Every few months I ask my audience what the best shows on Netflix are. Through these posts I have discovered shows on Netflix that are now my favourites!

I have tried to list these shows from newest to oldest, with the exception of some timeless recommendations featured in the top rankings.

Dead To Me

A hotheaded widow searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband befriends an eccentric optimist who isn’t quite what she seems.

Starring Christina Applegate, Dead To Me has Netflix users bing watching from start to finish.

The show is quickly rising to be one of the best shows on Netflix. Cast also includes Linda Cardellini, James Marsden.

The Good Place

I have not started this yet. It got a LOT of recommendations the last time we did a Netflix shout out.  This is the next series I will start, it sounds really funny.

“Due to an error, self-absorbed Eleanor Shellstrop arrives at the Good Place after her death. Determined to stay, she tries to become a better person.” – Netflix

Mindhunter is based off a True Crime novel. It is not full of constant drama or action scenes. It stays fairly true to what a true crime based series should be like.

The series focuses on quality over quantity. It takes patience and an interest in serial killer profiling. The cinematic quality is stunning and a lot of work has gone into building up the character development.

“In the late 1970s, two FBI agents expand criminal science by delving into the psychology of murder and getting uneasily close to all-too-real monsters.” – Netflix

The Haunting Of Hill House

The Haunting Of Hill House follows siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now, adults, they are forced back together in the face of tragedy and must finally confront the ghosts of their past. imbd

I really don’t want to drop anything that is even close to a spoiler on this one. If you are into horror and suspense, watch it.

Ah yes, every time. It’s got to be the most recommended show. It’s not just about Jamie’s incredible butt cheeks or the way he somehow pulls off long ginger locks in a manly fashion.

The storyline is great and while it’s mostly fiction, Outlander still includes some true events in the history of Ireland, Scotland, and England.

This series was doubtful in the beginning.

I revisited the show after it was suggested to me recently via my audience. I’m glad I did this because I had not given the show enough time to introduce Louis Litt yet.

Suits have all the typical roles you would expect from a TV Series about Lawyers. Sexy women in power, Hotshot men in expensive suits, Frenemies, and enemies from other firms.

Then there’s Louis. You Got Litt Up!

Louis is a big man baby whose emotions often spew out causing constant trouble. The actor nails it! He is both hilarious and excruciatingly painful at the same time.

Sometimes you will love him, hate him or pity him.

The Last Kingdom

I have just started this one, so far so good. I am a huge fan of shows which are set in medieval/historic times. Outlander, Peaky Blinders, Frontier are all in my “Watch again” list.

Uhtred (the main character) is a bit of a hot tamale, but just like Outlander, it isn’t all about the character’s appearance. The storyline is thick with a lot of detail, it requires your attention.

The show started in 2015 and has become considerably better over time, earning it a third series which is currently being filmed.

Update: Series 3 of The Last Kingdom is now available on Netflix and it is equally as incredible. It’s very emotional this time around and really peels back the character layers.

Yes, Uhtred is still hot AF.

The 100

One of the best shows on Netflix, however – they are awfully behind.

This is one you can enjoy with older teens as the show has a young cast. This series just keeps getting better in my opinion, to watch all of the episodes, up to series 5 can be purchased on iTunes.

The introduction of Jordan Bolger (Formerly Isaiah on BBC’s Peaky Blinders) to this show has given it a huge boost. His character, Miles Shaw, is such an asset to the show.

Can’t forget to mention home grown aussie, Bob Morley who is cast as Bellamy Blake.

Z Nation

Finished series 4? I recommend waiting until the whole of series 5 has rolled out before watching. Update: The entire series 5 is now available on Netflix.

I became quite obsessed with this show. Obviously, you will need to be a Zombie show fan for this one. Z Nation has a wonderful way of mixing comedy, action and moments of emotion and drama. The first series had me building relationships with on screen characters very quickly.

There were some episodes where I felt the show might be going down a slippery slope, however, it fully redeemed itself by the end of season 4.

Z Nation has returned for season 5, and is exclusive to Syfy. The only way to watch in Australia is on iTunes. The show is currently experiencing very low ratings in the US, and could be in trouble, which is unfortunate.

Best character in my opinion? Murphy and 10K.

Sadly, this show was cancelled due to its big budget. Netflix was not experiencing the return on ratings is hoped to achieve. Thankfully they did pay for Sense8 to return to filming a finale episode which games the audience closure on the show.

This show has everything an open-minded wants to see. Sexuality – with both gay, lesbian and transsexual characters, culture, music, humour, art and more..

The Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy requires patience. It does tell a long story. The characters are all very different, once you get to know them, the series gets better. I haven’t finished this one, so I cannot rave about it just yet.

It’s worth starting if you enjoy a quirky series, with a bit of action. It has a dark theme throughout, which I am really drawn to.

The Staircase

This show was fascinating. If you are a fan of true crime series, this is a must watch. The series tells the story of Michael Peterson who is charged with murder when it wife, Kathleen Peterson, was found dead at the bottom of the stairs.

While Michael maintains he is innocent, he has a lot to explain with every worm that flies out of the can, including past history that comes into the trial.

That is the end of the list for now! I will continue to add to this as I watch and get recommendations from my community.

Ted Bundy Tapes Documentary

While we patiently wait for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil + Evil, this documentary will prime you for the movie. It has everything you need to know about Ted Bundy, without the glorification of his murderous profile.

Ted Bundy is arguably the worlds most notorious serial killer. While a lot of people know of him, they don’t realise just how truly sick he was. If you are into true crime, this one is for you.
